Op een na grootste stad van Litouwen is Kaunas (373. 700 inwoners), gelegen aan de samenvloeiing van de Nemunas en de Neris, het land van de twee grootste rivieren. Dit was de hoofdstad van Litouwen tussen de oorlogen in 1920-1940, maar de geschiedenis van de stad begon in de 13e eeuw, toen de grootste stenen bastion in Litouwen hier werd gebouwd. A hand made beauty of this historical center is added by picturesque natural landscapes. Kaunas stands at the junction of two main rivers in Lithuania: Neman and Nyaris. |
