I would not EVER recommend this facility to anyone who is trying to recover. They r more interested in there money and numbers than they r in actually helping someone to heal. Many people come there bruised and broken. Unfortunately 9 times out of 10 the staff there will kick u while your down. Most staff have no first hand knowledge of addiction and everyone gets the same cookie cutter experience based on what they have read in a book. There are many facilities that are amazing in Rochester unity at Park Ridge is just not one of them.

I had the same experience as BellaRose did at another location. It is truly unfortunate that this place continues to give substandard care and diagnosis.

The biggest red flag came to me when I saw one of their counselors bar tending at a local establishment. I cannot believe that someone who is preaching alcohol abstinence by day and by night throwing back pints like there is no tomorrow.

I still cannot get over that when I thought I needed a second opinion I was harassed and threatened about why I should not do it. And it turns out I was right, and the other counselor recommended no treatment at all.

I have had many experiences over the years with the Unity Health system. From my teenage years to the present I have battled addiction, and unfortunately I have been in and out of Unity's Mental Health and Chemical Dependency programs more than a few times. (with over 5 misdiagnoses) What I have noticed is that there is no focus on truly helping an individual with their personal, often times complex situation, but instead you are blindly prescribed a "one size fits all" recovery plan. When you stray from this rigid and useless "plan" you will probably find no flexibility from within. You will be told to go to AA (regardless of your opinion on the validity of that specific organization) you will hear phoned in answers from enthusiastic, but inexperienced and naive I-read-it-in-a-book counselors. Most have no first hand experience with addiction. The incompetence is overwhelming.

Appointments will be made, and counselors will persuade you to come as often as possible "for your own good/ recovery comes first/blah blah blah". The truth is, numbers mean money, and these 30 minute check ins usually consist of the counselor going through a checklist of questions. You might even have the opportunity to express your displeasure in your counselor, as they watch you fill out the feedback portion of the form. In my experience these visits consist of over-burdened inept counselors: 1) trying to remember your specific situation so they can offer relative (but predictable) feedback and 2) bartering back and forth about when you can come in next time, to repeat this frustrating and unproductive process. Don't get too attached either. Like any unsuccessful business or poorly run facility, the turnover rate is much faster than the typical course of recovery. The road to recovery at Unity (insert any location here) is one that is paved with good intentions? It is not for the truly sick and suffering.

Unity counts on the fact that you don't have any other option. What I got out of my experiences was a patronizing certificate that was proof of my time spent in the chairs there.
