There’s something about Lebo’s art that you can’t help but connect to… It’s the kind of visual storytelling that engages you on many levels – the colorful pop art elements are accessible, immediately putting a smile on your face; the deeper narrative asserting itself amid bold lines, thoughtful symbolism and creative cues that you feel he must have put there just for you. Known for larger pieces like his many murals, over-sized canvases – even the hull of an NCL cruise ship – this pop-up shop makes Lebo’s art accessible to all. Prints – on paper, wood, and this great metal “art bond” – are available in a variety of sizes, as are some really awesome t-shirts and stickers (the blue “blessed” owl is my favorite). Lebo’s series of custom baseball caps is unique… they make awesome gifts for anyone, but especially for anyone who loves ESPN’s Dan Le Batard (the artist’s brother and biggest fan) who wears LEBO baseball caps on and off camera all the time.
At the end of the day, the space feels special. More than just a store, the shop offers you a little piece of Miami that’s as colorful, quirky, creative, diverse, inspiring, fun, witty and wise as the artist himself and the city he calls home. It’s not always easy to find something that, just by looking at it, makes you feel happy and hopeful in that kind of open, childlike way that we sometimes struggle to stay connected to… Whether it’s a t-shirt, stickers that now live on my iPhone and postcards that adorn my desk reminding me to find that “divine spark”… or just a mental picture, the Lebo Art pop-up shop is definitely worth the 1-block detour off of Lincoln Road.
