We moved from Tennessee a few months ago and I was very reluctant on who I picked for my 3 littles Pediatrician. I have to say, I am so very pleased with Dr Powell and his wonderful, caring, genuine staff! I was convinced that being up to date with everything digital makes the Dr. now I know that that’s just not true. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Powell and his staff for your children!

Dr. Powell is the best pediatrician in Huntsville for me! I have been living in this area for three years and he is just the best of the best. So happy to have found him!!! The staff is also great!

Dr. Powell is fantastic. I researched and chose him before my first child was born. I have MANY friends that run to the doctor every time their child has a fever. Their children are constantly on antibiotics and other meds. My 10 year old had an ear infection after swimming when she was 4 and had to have antibiotics. Both of my children have had most of the general childhood coughs, fevers, itches, etc. Other than the 1 ear infection my 10 year old has never had another antibiotic. My 8 year old has never been prescribed an antibiotic. He has told me that fevers are the bodies way of fighting the infection/illness. Let the body do what it was designed to do. I firmly believe the reason my children are so healthy is because Dr. Powell encouraged us to let their illnesses run their course rather than medicating. Their bodies have built up fantastic immune systems.

If you like giving your kids medicines for every ache, pain, sniffle, fever, this isn't the doctor for you.

My 3.5 year old has been seeing Dr. Powell since he was a newborn. I absolutely love the care that he has gotten. I love the fact that Dr. Powell doesn't automatically push antibiotics because they aren't always necessary. He is very matter of fact and spends a lot of time explaining things and usually cites medical studies to back up the info that he gives me. My son loves going to see him and the staff have always been incredibly nice.

I initially chose Dr. Powell because he was flexible about vaccination schedules. I like that he is largely non-interventionist. However, when my child did have a serious problem as an infant, I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously in a timely manner, and that I was dismissed as being an overly anxious first time parent. While I do recommend Dr. Powell, I also recommend bothering him frequently if there is something wrong with your child. However, I do feel as though we have a better doctor-patient relationship after the ordeal.
He is moderately okay at keeping appointments. I would estimate a 30 minute average wait past your appointment time to be seen, which isn't bad by Huntsville standards. We usually schedule appointments at the end of the day, when the wait times stack up. Given that he takes as much time to explain things to you as he does, I can understand the wait time, and wouldn't change a thing.
