I have been to Malabar on a few different occasions and the three star rating is an average of the 4 and 2 star visits that I've had.
The food is generally fine and the menu akin to traditional tapas. The meat dishes have generally been enjoyable and I do like the variety of dishes and specials on their menu. However, I would not recommend the mussels at all, they did not taste fresh and were definitely veering towards questionable territory. The meatballs have also been fairly bland and lukewarm. The kicker in our last experience was dessert. This was the first dessert I had ordered at Malabar and we went with one tres leches for three people. We didn't finish it and the tres leches enthusiast at the table sincerely thought that we had been served the wrong dish initially. We truly wanted to send it back, but didn't want to seem difficult or have an extended conversation about it so we settled for finishing the coffee and paying.
That being said, the ambiance is rather fun. The close together tables and hectic tapas atmosphere lead to a buzzy feeling when Malabar is full. Staff have always been helpful and courteous. I am hoping to give Malabar another chance, but will not be doing so with out of town guests.

Enjoy normal tapas as compared to bizzare concoctions. This was an OK tapas place. The food was ok, nothing to brag about, but not bad either. Bill was steep for what we got. We regularly do tapas in NYC and Chicago, and this was more expensive than either of those and the food wasnt as good. All the food needed salt. Which I rather add than have it be too salty. Got the white sangria, and personally, had a weird taste to it. We probably will be back for tapas if in the mood, but nowhere I'd eat daily. I will say the flank steak saves this review. Now that dish, I'd eat twice a day!

Simply, wow! Great tapas for a reasonable price. Service was very attentive and parking wasn't bad with a lot nearby. I recommend the croquetas and octopus.

I have visited this little gem few times, and every time I left satisfied. I really enjoyed all of the tapas, especially the seafood ones. The manager recommended few bottles of wine, which paired well. He was sharp and attentive to our needs. Looking forward until the next visit.
