I grew up in and around Chorlton and have seen Manley Park transform only slightly. It does have a children's play area and a tarmac football and basketball pitch. There is also a small sized cricket pitch. But that's it. It's not good for an occasional stroll as the view/scenes are marred by the local shops and nursery.
If you want to enjoy the a bigger grassed/landscaped area, I suggest either Chorlton Water Park or Alexandra Park.

Not clean enough for a small park. Like what they have done to the kids play area. Now the football cage requires some new soft tarmac to play on as little kids fall and hurt them selves. Get this park fixed.
