If you want to see a national collection outside of London, then this is the place for you. With beautiful Pre-Raphaelite paintings, great exhibitions and a fabulous cafe. Go and enjoy the ambiance.

Great exhibition of art. Fabulous building in a fantastic City. The architecture is stunning, inside and out. I would recommend all visitors to Liverpool to call in, if only briefly.

So lucky to have this wonderful art gallery close to our home. The childrens area is fantastic, with free activities for little ones. Our kids love the puppet show and costumes!

We were looking forward to visiting, but it didn't live up to our expectations. Where are the signs? It's like a maze you can never get out of. Very claustrophobic. You can never find your way out, never mind decide what you have already seen and what you haven't. We tried to find the exit but gave in and sat down defeated. Won't be going again.

It's the best public art gallery in NW England by almost any standard. Room after room of great paintings covering five centuries of western European art. The statuary room is worth seeing by itself.
Altogether, it's possible to spend a full morning or afternoon in there and come away impressed. A lot of pieces directly relate to Mersey side and Lancashire history. Lovely place.
