This is a perfectly adequate hotel for a night's stay, and if you're lucky for longer stays. This time I had a tiny room, where I could barely squeeze into the shower. Tall people would have really struggled. However, in the past, I've had huge rooms. It does strike me as a little posh, which makes me feel self conscious, but the staff are all friendly. In my experience, it's expensive for what it is.

I stayed in the Cheltenham Malmaison for a couple of nights recently. I've stayed in several other Malmaisons in the past,

The problem with this hotel is the standard double room is tiny. The bed fills most of the room, and there was a desk and chair on one side of the bed which meant it was tight to walk down that side. With the bathroom door open you can't walk along the end of the bed. There isn't anywhere to put your suitcase really. Malmaison charge a premium compared with other good chain hotels, and at these prices this cramped room isn't good enough.

The room was also very hot. Luckily it has windows which can be opened, which helped. There is "air conditioning", but it's ineffective. When I mentioned the heat to one of the reception staff, they admitted that the air con didn't do much, and suggested that I switch it off, open the windows, and use the electric fan which was in the room. The presence of the fan indicates that the management know the rooms are overly hot.

The phone in the room didn't work - when I checked I found that one of the batteries was missing.

The room wasn't very soundproof. You can hear people walking about in the room upstairs; when the room next door used the shower the water pipes made quite a noise in my room; the person in the room above had their TV on quite loud, and I could actually hear what was being said on the TV.

The staff were all very pleasant.

I had breakfast included in my rate (which is pretty unusual in my experience with Malmaisons). Breakfast is pretty good, and hot food is cooked and brought to you, rather than a buffet style as you get in many other hotels.

The location is excellent, close to interesting shopping streets such as Montpellier Street and the Promenade.

There is free parking available on site, although spaces are limited. I didn't have a problem parking though.

Had the four course Sunday lunch, excellent food, both quality and variety. Well worth a visit!

This is a standard double room apparently. Would be nice to be able to get into bed from the side rather than having to climb in from the bottom.. don't think that should be to too much to expect! Did not see any photos showing rooms like this in the gallery of photos on the website before I booked! All of the beds in the photos as far as I could see have plenty of room to walk around!
I'd hate to see what the rooms rated as 'Cosy' look like.
I have had to rate 1 star, but I didn't want to give any... it wouldn't let me post without selecting something...
