Warning!!! Divemaster internship!!!
Evaluation of diving school in Kamala Beach
During the last High Season I was in Kamala, where I wanted to do my Divemaster Internship in a small german diving school. What my boss had described, however, did not correspond to the reality.
On the third day after my arrival, she suddenly gave me a bill about 700 €, including different costs (training + buoy + INT adapter). In addition there were a further 500 € as a security measure that I would not cut off with the certifications before the end of my internship. Before I came there I knew that I would have to pay for board and lodge, but not more for the internship. From this moment the atmosphere was very tense, but it got even worse.
At the beginning there were just little annoying things. For example, employees don’t get discount for equipment, as it is common in other dive centers.
The final straw was that I brought my second hand Apeks regulator to Monique, the boss, for the revision. The costs amounted to € 70; but I had to pay 20 € more because it was more expensive than she had expected. In Germany I have let revise recently the regulator and I was then told that the device has not been revised at least four years! I would not have expected such an unprofessional behavior of an instructor.
The dive center itself is impossible. The rental equipment for the guests is cheap and nasty (leaky). The diving courses last only 30 out of 50 scheduled minutes. Diving depth is not very deep; only between 8-12 meters. There are also diving sold for recently certified divers, for example at night in a wreck at one meter of vision. Also the IFR is carried out without any practical applications.

After 2.5 months, I quit there after a discussion with the boss Monique who had been very choleric again and had even threatened me. I even recorded the denouncement!
To date I have only received my Rescue Diver; the rest is still missing.
Now I am a scuba instructor and can only warn against going there.
