We'd booked a bus online to take us from Penang to Surat Thani in Thailand at 5am. This unearthly hour seemed like a good idea at the time.
Our email confirmation had vague instructions: be at the Komtar bus station 45 mins before departure. We had checked the area the previous evening, hoping to confirm at an office but the don't have one here. We asked at the other bus offices but they didn't recognise our bus company. We found nothing in the bus station to indicate where the collection point would be.
So we return at 0415 and waited and waited. The place was hot and virtually deserted, with huge rats fearlessly running around the gutters and sleeping rickshaw drivers. Are we in the right place? We wandered around the station but found nobody else waiting for a bus.
At 0515 we found an open bus company office and they kindly phoned the number on the email. They're on they're way he said. Still more waiting. He phoned again: they're waking the driver now he snorted! We were in considering aborting this company and buying new tickers with this bus company he wasn't keen on this idea. Our minibus finally turned up at 6am. The drivers were very nice and apologetic but claimed they were working to Thai time (which is an hour behind Malaysia). Theres nothing in their information that might suggest this.
We then spent another half hour driving around picking up other passengers.
When you book on line you choose your seats in a new looking bus. That's a joke. The actual bus is tatty and no allocated seats.
The journey itself was easy but the seats are a bit hard. You also change bus at Hat Yai: a half hour wait. The minibus was better and full, still no reserved seats. We squeezed in, separated but we're on our way again: arriving in Surat at 3pm.

I feel cheated and here is why :
1) spent RM75 because of the purported "executive coach" which turned out to be a sub standard 44 seater bus, with no direct pick up point where we waited for a supposed 12 passenger ONLY van to pick 14 of us for a 1 hour journey to immigration/customs;
2) bought a 1pm departure tickets but instead we departed TOGETHER with passengers who bought 11am, 12.45pm and 1.30pm. What is the purpose to allow us to pick a time?
3) so called executive coach but seat is worse than a public bus, dirty and stinks and very uncomfortable;
4) made a verbal complaint to the person in charge but was told to make a complain to easybook. This is totally unacceptable; and
5) By way of comparison, konsortium on the other hand offers better quality in terms of seats and services at a cheaper rate.
