It's a very tired market, barely open!! A few stalls in what would have been a great building 50 years ago. Call in if you're passing but don't make a special trip

Several options for buying fruit and other food which is nice. However it smells really fishy (literally) around the place because they sell quite a lot of fish. As a veg(etari)an this is somewhat acceptable (not really but that's the way it is right now), but the fact that across the fish stores there were bowls with the heads of fish in it was really disgusting. Also there were some places which were a bit dark and where I didn't feel totally at ease.

A really interesting place. Old market where you can feel the vibes of the city and it’s locals.
It has a bit of everything, fruits, vegetables, fish, a couple restaurants and souvenir shops as well where the souvenirs have an affordable price.
A cute mug was only 3€ there.
I recommend to spend a few minutes walking around it, and also going to the second floor if you access through the main one to have a different point of view.

We went on a weekday off season and most of the stalls were empty - I think Fridays and Saturdays you’d find it much more busy! Combination of local food market and tourist souvenirs - we got some port to take home for a good price and if you’re cooking it looks like a great place to get fish & cured meats! There are some nice little shops on the walk to it which are worth peeking into.

A beautiful covered market in central Porto. Fresh fruit and veg, as well as traditional butchers and fish markets. In addition there are many souvenir shops which are far cheaper than the ones in other areas frequented by tourists where prices double and even triple.
The market has one main level and a mezzanine level. Most of the fresh fruit and veg are on the mezzanine level.
