Beautiful building with a great outdoor area. Service was good. Far and friendly.
The selection of beers available was surprisingly ordinary for a Wellington bar. That really sums up this place.

The original St Johns ambulance base now a restaurant with a fantastic outdoor area. Bean bags are awesome to chill out on. Good food

Found this place while walking along the wharf in downtown. It was a gorgeous autumn day with the sun shining and I was starving and in need of a cold drink. There were bean bags strewn across the lawn area in front the historic looking restaurant front and I wasn’t sure at first if you could get service there or if it was just a public “lounge” area. I found a large comfy bean bag next to a little table and basked in the sun for a minute or two before an attentive waiter came over with a menu.
I ordered a beer and their lamb app. The beer came out quick and deliciously cold and the lamb took a bit of time, but it was worth it as it was cooked correctly, the meat was tender and flavorful, and for an app, it was very filling!
They have an excellent selection of drinks (loved the local beer offerings) and a robust menu. I would definitely have come back for a full on lunch or dinner had I had more time in Welly.

One of the best (and only) sunny outdoor spots in Wellington - St John's is a good choice during daylight hours. It has a decent range of mainstream beers, ciders, and wine. There are also plenty of options for snacking on. The crowd gets a bit borish after about 6pm on the weekends, playing host to more trashy types and plenty of bachelor/bachelorette parties.
