My husband and I went on a four day hiking trip with Eric for our honeymoon. We started in Oaxaca City and ended in Puerto Escondido. To say our experience with Zapotrek was amazing is an understatement! We saw so many beautiful vistas, experienced local culture and cuisine, and learned so much. The hikes were exciting, and provided a good taste of all that Oaxaca has to offer. If you love adventure and taking the road less travelled, then Zapotrek Hike and Bike tours are for you!

Eric of Zapotrek offers first class service in every aspect. Great communication booking our trek, clean new van for travel, excellent meals for breakfast and lunch at wonderful restaurants included and a passion for indigenous culture and love of the Earth that is contagious. His depth of knowledge about culture, history, local politics, botany and environment is shared in a friendly way that is accessible and engaging. Our outing with them lasted from early morning into the night. He was happy to customize out itinerary and the trek to Hierve de Aqua with visit to a secret waterfall is a trip we will cherish. Highly recommended.

Fantastic day trip through the Zapotec valley via van and mountain bike. Sergio, our guide was so knowlegeable about the customs in the pueblos that we visited. We visited the homes of artisans who demonstrated their craft: Weavers of silk and wool, candlemakers making intricate designs with beeswax. We ate wonderful dishes made with homemade mole. He taught us about edible native plants. The groups with this your company are small and the van and bikes modern and comfortable. Highly recommend this trip!

We hired Zapotrek to take us to Puerto Escondido from the city of Oaxaca, as we had done this route many times before by bus and always wondered what there was to see and do on the way (it is a beautiful route through the mountains). We had no idea just how much we have been missing all of these years!
First of all, our guide Eric, was an absolute delight to spend four days with! He has such a great personality, and is a wealth of information about his culture and the local communities we visited (and ones we did not - the bucket list is getting longer!). His vehicle is a new SUV - comfortable, clean, and the air-conditioning worked great!
Second of all, we cannot speak more highly of the seamless itinerary Zapotrek put together for us. We spent four days on the road with these guys and it flew by! Everything was planned just so - we never noticed that we were in the car for too long, the meals were perfectly timed and the restaurants and locally prepared meals were AMAZING, and the cabins and B&B accommodations were absolutely wonderful!
Lastly, the sights and hikes we experienced along the way were breathtakingly beautiful! We were exposed to the many different types of the vegetation Oaxaca is famous for, we hiked through some really amazing caverns and some small pueblos in the mountains, we saw beautiful waterfalls and actually swam at one of them, we met local artisans who showed us how they make their baskets and wood carvings, we saw how a (very) local mezcal distillery operates and tasted their mezcal, we swam with the phosphorescent planktons, we saw hundreds of birds as we kayaked the lagoon early in the morning, and we ended the time with Zapotrek with a herbal temezcal and massage.
This was one of the best experiences we have ever had in our many years of coming to Oaxaca and one of the best experiences we have ever had in our travels anywhere. I cannot recommend these guys enough and wish them the best with their company! Thank you Zapotrek!
