High end done well. Some high end stores feel like they are cramming too much stuff into the space and it's not pleasant to shop there, but this store is spacious and a pleasure to explore.

I enjoyed visiting the multi-floor Maruzen bookstore at Bal. It was a delight to find such a range of English books including a section on Kyoto, Japan, temples and gardens. Definitely worth a visit.

Very lovely building, comfortable for window shopping. Expensive shops but also some rare finds. The best public bathrooms in Kyoto.

Top floor of BAL. Nice drinks and food. Vue on karawamachi street if you can get a sit near the window.

High-end shopping mall with a balanced mix of local and foreign design stores, boutiques and cafes. The highlight is the Muji cafe and store on the 4th and 5th floor.
