I stayed at this hotel about a year ago when I first visited Japan. I didn't initially think the location was great but it actually was very handy! First, its very centrally located and we were able to do other day trips because the train station was right here! Inside of the station there were really nice cafes and restaurants. There was a conveyor belt sushi place which I ate at about 3 times in the same two days, it was just that good! The hotel was really nice, the rooms were super spacious especially in comparison to Tokyo where they were tiny! The lobby was a comfortable size and had a restaurant/bar. We did go to another hotel that had a roof top which was a great place to have food a drinks close by. I would definitely stay here again though!

Good locatio. The hotel is located across the street from the Kyoto station. Decent sized rooms. Great service from staff.

I stayed at new Miyako for 2 nights in the late September 2017.
It is a pretty standard hotel which I didn't have a high expectation -Old features, mediocre food, poor soundproof walls and doors and I'm a heavy sleeper-and the experience was mediocre until one of porters was very rude.
We were in the line and asked a question to this guy and he just yelled at us "YOU SHOULD LINE!!" three times and turned his head away.
I was so confused for seconds because it was so uncalled for out of blue and not acceptable in the hospitality industry.
The guy disappeared in shortly and I expressed my concern at the concierge on my turn. The poor lady apologized on behalf of her colleague without knowing the situation.
I ran into him at the lift when I was returning to my room(karma), and I said he was so rude and shouldn't talk to other people in that manner.
I kept it cool until he lied to my face that he didn't do it. So then, whole thing with manager and apology thing happened .
The manager excused the porter's poor English skill but the bad service/ attitude and the poor language skill are two very different things. Other staffs at the premise who spoke less English were professional and very kind.
lt's a classic example how one employee can spoil the reputation of a business. I will not return here or recommend this place when there are tons of better options in Kyoto station area. Wish I can give minus stars.

Rock hard beds. Standard rooms. Love the bathtube. Japanese, American or continental breakfast to choose from. Close to the railway station. A convenient store in the basement. The service is excellent

We stayed in the New Miyako for five night and had a really wonderful stay. The room was amazing. They actually moved us when we told them we would much rather have a twin room. Wonderfully large, it's such a comfort to come back to. The staff were unbelievably helpful and welcoming.
