Me and my girlfriend had an Absolutely beautiful day long escape here. We rented 2 bicycles at the entrance of the park and enjoyed the ruins and remains of this Roman way. We brought our lunch and had a pic in under an old ruin on the side of the big cobble stones road

Only go when the road is closed for traffic, too dangerous otherwise... Check opening times of the catacombs too if that's what you are planning to do.

Start walking at the church of San Sebastiano fuori le Mura, as it is only here that it ceases to be a busy main road. The old road goes arrow-straight for miles, until it meets a modern main road again at Frattocchie 20km from the city. Most of the surface is in the little cobbles you get in the city centre, with only stretches in the massive ancient basalt blocks.
Illegal suburban development, completely against the law, has spoiled the country ambience in places.
The maintained section stops at the Via dell'Aeroscalo crossing, some distance before Frattocchie. After that the going is a bit rough, and the locality is a regular spot for prostitutes to service clients.

Antic road in beautiful countryside, now regional park. Best way to go through it is to rent a bike.

Beautiful park, even though it's currently cold in January. Via Appia Antica is a very old and historic Roman road. You really need to come and see it. On Sundays for certain hours the roadway is closed to traffic so you can see it more intimately. The overall area is very nice to walk around on a sunny day. A couple places to stop for food along the way as well.
