I have never written a review before, but our experience at Dolce Maria was so epically bad I felt compelled to warn others! We started the evening with a bottle of wine that had gone off (I know you will have to take my word for it, but trust me, the wine smelled and tasted like basement). We tried to send it back (only the second time in my life I have ever done this) and the service staff refused to take it, saying the wine was "perfect". Our meal was then served by the grouchiest server I have ever met - not one smile or any warmth at all (even though we did not continue to complain about the wine, but just left it untouched on our table). The bruschetta was passable, but our risotto with porcini was runny and undercooked. For mains we ordered the chicken with lemon and the beef with porcini. The chicken was okay but a bit greasy, and the beef was mostly fat and sinew with the odd bit of slimy mushroom thrown in. We also ordered a side of seasonal vegetables, which turned out to be oil-drenched, mostly cold spinach. This was served only after we had finished our mains, with the server saying only that "the kitchen forgot" - no apology or inquiry as to whether we would still like to eat it or have it taken off the bill. Finally, when we asked for the bill (in Italian - as Canadians, we do attempt to use some local language when we travel), the server shoved it at us without a "thank you" or even any eye contact. We have been in Cortona for a few weeks and there are many wonderful restaurants here. Give Dolce Maria a pass! (And yes, we paid for the untouched bottle of wine, which was included on the bill!)

This is the best place ever! It's family owned and operated and they are such sweet people! The rooms are clean and beautiful and dinner was fantastic. We stayed in 2013 and are planning on staying again in May. So excited!!

Execellent food in a really classy atmosphere. Dolce Maria is a bit of the main tourist tracks in a side street, located in a historic building.
The food is tipical tuskan and absolutely delightfull. During a week day the restaurant was almost empty and offered great oportunity for a candlelight dinner. The waiter was very attentive spoke English and fluent German! We will be back....
