Slyly jabbing at the political mainstream with its very name,Uganda is a really unique place in Jerusalem. Loads of alternative/underground comics and records ostensibly for sale (though I've never seen a purchase) generate a hipster "post-" sort of a vibe. This isn't catering to the bureaucrat on his night out or the ubiquitous tourist/pilgrim. There are loads of bars in Jerusalem but most are an uncomfortable attempt at combining the "friendly neighborhood pub" with a dizzying deafening Mediterranean disco. Uganda is the only one that actively shuns what is perceived to sell and aims for the fringe. Interesting if you're a visitor, refreshing or even vital if you're a resident.
