Great vehicle rental company - pleasant to deal with, the vehicle was high quality and comfortable, terms and conditions were very clearly laid out. We rented a Toyota Land Cruiser. It was nice having the comfort to go to the more remote areas of Iceland without worry of the vehicle limiting us.

Everything was as advertised, great clean vehicle, no hassles, would definitely recommend.
After landing in Reykjavik we followed the instructions given to us by the rental agency, the free 5 minute shuttle was easy and convenient. Walking is also an option, not very far at all (max 10 minutes). Upon arriving we were greeted with free coffee and the lady at the service desk was very friendly and helpful. She gave us a few tips for sights to see along the journey and did a great job explaining what was and was not covered.
One thing to note! Iceland is an absolutely beautiful country but the weather conditions can be very harsh. Do your research ahead of time, every rental company has optional upgrades for sand/ash damage, windshield coverage, etc. It is always possible that the weather/nature can cause damage to vehicles, especially in Iceland. I know a family friend that went there, shipped over his OWN motorbike, and the thing was written off due to a sandstorm. Because of this we opted for the full insurance package. It great to be able to enjoy Iceland with out the stresses of things that aren't in your control.
We had a Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 Diesel and it was awesome. It comfortably held 4 of us with camping/cooking gear, it allowed us to travel F Roads, see the highlands, get away from the crowds, and access incredible spots not otherwise possible. Only con I can think of is this car was fairly thirsty and fuel is not cheap in Iceland. On the other hand, with four people sharing costs it isn't a big deal.

Just watched some other reviews, most of the issues are similar, Atak cannot serve customer during the time period they commit.
Here I copy paste my review in another branch of Atak, just for other people who are going to rent a car in Iceland. Btw this is the worst car renting experience in my life, even though they have relatively cheaper price than its competitors.
Booked a car from Atak, because of holiday reason they say they cannot serve me as the time period I booked (they didn't close the period for booking online, however apparently they don't want to admit that it is their mistake). After contacting the local customer service, got a "no". Then try to issue a complaint to the official website customer service, they still say it is not their issue and did nothing for me. I spent 700 euros and bought service like this, what can I say, just imagine if I meet some problems on the road and contact them, what will I got?
Unfortunately it is not available to give a 0 star on Google review, I have to give them a one-star, Atak, thanks to the system setting of Google review, you can still got 1 star than nothing :)

worst experience of my life. go with ANY other company. w
also, they have their employees contribute reviews to cancel out the one-stars. go to their facebook, every review not-one-star review is from someone in Iceland.

AVOID ATAK EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE CHEAPEST RATES!!! I booked Atak for my September 2016 trip since it was the cheapest option and advertised as being open 24/7. This was crucial for my group since we landed at 4am and wanted our car soon after. We set our time for 5 am, and showed up at 530, only to see that it was not open. We went next door to a competitor and asked what time they open, and they kind of giggled and said they should open at 6, and that we could stay inside to keep warm. Around 615, we asked again about Atak and they helped us call an Atak employee, who was sleeping and rushed over to help us. His excuse was that "they usually open at 8, but when there is a reservation for earlier they have someone there early. No one was there for our early reservation because most of their employees are new summer employees and they probably forgot..." Obviously I wasn't happy about this and asked for some kind of compensation, and he upgraded us to an SUV. This was nice of him.
Fast forward to the end of the trip: I see on my statement the charge for two days of rental, which I expected. I see another charge for $100+ so I email them about this... They respond within a few hours saying that I left the gas tank empty and it cost this much to refill it. I responded by saying that we refilled the tank on the way to the airport, specifically giving them the name and location of the gas station, offering proof if needed. No response for over a day. I then email again, saying I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company, since I know that I refilled the tank, even offering to give them proof. 10 minutes later, they respond saying I was refunded earlier today. I hadn't been notified of this though. Sounds like they're just trying to sneak in extra charges without people noticing, as someone in another review mentioned.
Long story short, pay a little extra to use a different rental company. It'll save you a lot of unnecessary stress. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH ATAK!
