Tyre scam!! Planned well ahead and got a budget car rental. Got a car with old winter tyres and one of them was faulty from the first day and on the drop off the agent said "don't worry, it happens a lot"..(?!) Well, not to me.. I've rented many cars before and it never happened..I guess they were not happy because I had a cheap deal and didn't pay for any of the extras they always try to sell.. Insurances, GPS, fuel, wifi, child chair, etc..
In the end, they made me pay for a new tyre.. Got charged over 17000 kr, for å new tyre.. (way more than I paid for 5 days rental) Made of gold probably..
The conclusion is, budget sucks and left Iceland with a bad taste in my mouth.. Never to recommend and not looking forward to come back..

Awfully slow service. 2 hours waiting in the queue with 30 people after midnight. Just compare: flying time from Helsinki to Reykjavik was 3 hours... never again, Budget

No shuttle back to the airport when you return the car. You have to walk around 400 meters to get back to the airport on foot. Luggage is not the only problem, also cold, rain and heavy wind. They should offer a free transportation to the airport.

I booked a car for our 3 day stay in Iceland. Car pickup was all right, and the car was in good condition. My problem appeared when I returned the car. As I was in a rush for air-plane, car return was fast, just they charged me with 3 additional items, to my surprise. Total amount of around 100 Eur. When I objected a man at counter said: Oh, this is just deposit, it will be returned tonight. I was in a rush, so I did let it be. Bad mistake. They charged me, it was not a deposit, and I never got my money back. Why extra items, if I already paid for full coverage? The top item they additionally charged is "Counter Products". They are charging you a fee for adding extra items to your booking? I argued, exchanging number of emails with a lady from Budget, for a few days. At the end she simply stopped responding and she never explained, why they charged "Counter Products" item, for instance.
My friends had even worse experience. They got car broken, probably a small stone making a small hole in car radiator. The car needed towing. If you think you paid for full insurance cover, ask if towing is included. At Iceland it usually is not! It was not included in my "full cover" from Budget, and not included in "full cover" of my friends. They got charged 2400 EUR!!! They charge each kilometre tow car makes. From its garage, up to car hire return place, and back to garage of towing car.

Very fast service, great car and easy return. We were served by a lovely lady that took her time advising us about terms of use and sharing local knowledge. It's open 24 hours and is conveniently at the airport arrivals. Before booking we read a lot of bad reviews about car rental companies in Iceland but we had good experience with Avis. I would recommend!
