I have had mixed feelings about the work I had done with America Dental / Costa Rican Bio Dental. I do want to say that I felt like I could trust both Doctor Ignacio Vargas Gould and his assistant dentist whose name i have forgotten, which was really important to me because it was scary having all those cavities done. I also found all of the supporting staff to be very kind and helpful, and Viktor to be very knowledgable and professional and accommodating. I would say that I was more or less happy with the work that was done until I went to a dentist in Canada. I went to a dentist in Canada to see if one of my fillings wasn't filled properly because the tooth was very sensitive to temperature, it turns out the filling was fine, but I was shown all the rough edges left on every filling, and told that food will accumulate on those rough edges against the gum line and that they need to be filed down. She said the work was not finished properly. I could feel her tool catching on each tooth and saw it in the mirror, and I remember the assistant dentist appeared to have a tool malfunction near the end of our surgery, and it was a sanding tool by the looks of it, it sprayed water out of the side of it and it landed in my mouth and tasted funny, and the assistant dentist looked surprised, tried the tool again, then put it back down and said we would continue the next day. I asked him if it was because the tool was broken and he said "the tool is not broken", but that was not what I was reading from his body language. The surgery room at Costa Rican Bio Dental was a little bit dusty and unclean, perhaps not used often, and both Doctors answered their cell phones and cell watches during the surgery, touching these items with their hands before resuming surgery which concerned me. In addition to having to pay again to have all these fillings filed down and finished, I have had to have two very sharp sections of filling filed down between two teeth that catch and shred the dental floss every time. I did not notice these were a problem until I returned home because my teeth were too sore to brush or floss for a few days. It is for these two reasons that I would say that I had a poor experience at this clinic. I was willing to overlook the fact that the Doctors were half an hour late on two days, and then said they had overbooked themselves and had to reschedule me for the next day, even though I had spoke with Viktor the human resources man about being able to complete the surgery in as short a time as possible so I could have time to see Costa Rica before returning home, the surgery ended up taking 4 days instead of 2, and I had only 1 free day to travel around. The other thing that was troubling was that I was never given a proper quote for the work done the entire time I was there. The first quote I received had two extra fillings and an extraction on it, simply because the wisdom tooth was not level with the other teeth. I believe that dentistry should be done with the intention of minimizing pain; if the patient has no pain and the teeth are functional and are not falling apart then there is no need for surgery, as the surgery itself is painful and expensive and can lead to problems in the future. So it seemed a needless extraction which I requested to not have done. The invoice I received at the end of the surgery still had the extraction on it, as well as an extra filling, so the receptionist called Doctor Vargas and over the phone they made changes and the final bill had them removed but had an added cleaning, which I had asked if we could not have the cleaning at the beginning because the bill was already double the size of what I had calculated from the price list on the website before coming. In any case, I felt like maybe I was not valued because I was trying to save money, I felt like I was rushed through and bumped around to accommodate more important clients, and it seems as though the work was not completed carefully perhaps for the same reasons.

"I love the way Costa Rican Biodental Clinic is very straight forward about procedures and what is necessary. The care I got was top notch. I had never had a positive dental experience before and I am so grateful to now have a dentist who takes the time to really explain (along with the technology) what is going on in my mouth and the best steps to take the best care of my teeth possible. Panoramic X-rays, cleaning and exam was smooth as silk.
Thanks Dr. Magda for making me feel so at ease during my tooth extraction surgery on Friday (10/16/16).I appreciated how Dr. Magda patiently wiggled the tooth 'til it easily came out without trauma. As a result, I am recovered nicely... with very little swelling or discomfort! With Plasma Auto Blood Graft Now I am ready to come back to Costa Rican Biodental to have my zirconium implant.
Every person there is professional, warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and highly competent. They take the time to provide you with complete answers to questions, help you identify short and long term goals, and offer encouragement to help you reach those goals. It is always a very positive experience.
I appreciate the comfort of English speaking service.
Special thanks to Victor and Maria Jose for leading me through the whole dental process as well as helping with accommodations and arranging sight-seeing in Costa Rica. A great trip to hot springs, Montezuma (where in the rain forest I saw Capuchin monkeys for the first time) and Nicaragua.
I am continually impressed with the level of care and dental health management. I would recommend your services to anyone!

As the online editor for Total Health Magazine I was doing a lot of research for an article on mercury amalgum removal. It is a dangerous and extremely toxic procedure. In my research I came across Costa Rican Biodental. As luck would have it they came highly recommended so I decided to subject myself for testing. We, the staff, always like to test products and services before we recommend them to our readers. I can tell you this from my session yesterday; Dr. Vargas and his team are top notch professionals. They took every protection possible for themselves and the patient (me). They even prepare you with a high dose vitamin C IV. And a second IV once your fillings are all removed. They did my lower jaw yesterday(Friday) and will do my upper teeth on Monday. Part of the procedure is a complete health assessment to determine how your body will be able to handle the procedure.

The bottom line is I highly recommend Costa Rican Biodental. In regards to cost I am getting 12 toxic fillings removed and 2 weeks in absolutely beautiful Costa Rica for half the cost of just the procedure in the US.

I am a 65 year old Canadian woman , who is very much into healthy lifestyle. I chose Bio Dental clinic because I was impressed with the methods and procedures that were shown on their website. I was impressed even more when I flew to Costa Rica and met Dr. Vargas and his staff in person. I told dr. Vargas that I was under impression that I need an implant and also I need to remove all my mercury feelings from my mouth. After examination and looking at my ex rays, dr.Vargas totally agreed with me that all the mercury needs to be removed, but he suggested to save my own tooth instead of an implant. He removed 4 old crowns for me, got rid of mercury and put in new zirconium crowns. The safety measures that were performed during removal of mercury were very impressive. Made me wonder why my Canadian dentist was trying to convince me that there is no harm in keeping mercury feelings. Dr. Vargas matched the colour perfectly, the crowns feel and look very much like my own, I am very happy with them. Dr.Vargas and his assistants Adriana and Rebeca speak perfect English, very professional , friendly and make you feel welcome. The office and equipment are very modern and up to date, lots of light and very clean. As far as cost is concerned, even with a horrible Canadian dollar exchange these days, it was still less then half price for me, if I would do these procedures in Canada. Thank you, Bio Dental, I would certainly recommend this clinic to anyone, especially to people who care to look after their health condition. Olga Lindan, Toronto.
