I use to enjoy visiting Retro's frequently on a Friday or Saturday night and use to rave about it to my friends, but now I feel absolutely disgusted by their discriminative policies for entry. You'd get dressed up for a night on the town and get denied entry simply by having tattoos (FYI my tattoos aren't tasteless and insulting in any way and are in places pretty common in this day and age). Imagine getting to the door with a group of friends to be the only one left embarrassed cause you're denied entry simply by the way you look (this has occurred multiple times). When someone suggests Retro's I now cringe at the thought cause I know my night will end as soon as I get there. It's the only place in the entire Fortitude Valley I know I won't be let in now. Time to get modern and stop being racist/ bigots Retro's.

Great music. Staff were nice.... Drinks were a bit below average. Too much mixer not enough alcohol. French martini was orange and tasted like pure pineapple juice.

The worst experience of my night. I was completely sober and I wanted to take few drinks inside with my friend but the doorman was really rude. He asked me how many drinks I took before (like if I was drink or what...?) and right after couldn't enter because I did not have leather shoes (what...?) First time in Brisbane I got refused into a club/bar and I think it's because I'm from another country, because I saw a lot of people wearing dirty and more casual shoes than me. Briefly, I'm not surprise to see the other comments about discrimination. I think that's a shame for this place, but also for Australia that is supposed to be a country without discrimination and where everyone is cool and respectful...totally disappointed and that behavior should be inspect and revised with more wise arguments.
So, by my first and last experience, definitely don't recommend this place. Just notice that the valley is plenty of other fun places...

Honestly a ridiculous excuse for an entertainment venue. When your partner who hasn't been drinking gets told to "sober up" before coming inside simply because he made eye contact with the "bouncer" whilst he was walking alongside the line...obviously an attempt to cull the line...then continued to go around and kick people out who were sitting at a table chatting. This venue is a joke. Don't get too comfortable because they are more interested in recycling patrons to fit in new ones rather than catering to loyal customers. We've had a few good nights here but we won't be returning. Can enjoy these old school music at places like Brightside without being asked to move along for intoxication despite 100% sobriety.
